Kitchen Bins information
The hardest working bin you’ll own is the one that’s in the heart of the home – the kitchen.
Choosing the size of your bin depends on your family size as well as whether or not you recycle and how much you recycle. When most packaging is removed and washed to be recycled, a large bin can take a long time to fill, which means food items can rot between emptying and create a bad smell. Smaller bins are better for this purpose as they fill up quicker and are changed sooner.
Large families however that produce a lot of kitchen waste will need a bigger bin so that bin liner changes don’t need to be made daily.
A pedal bin is the most convenient option as it’s a hands-free solution with a tight fitting lid for sealing away the rubbish. Swing lid bins are also useful, but the lid can get dirty more easily from the movement than the pedal option.
Wastepaper bins are not the first choice for kitchens and food rubbish as the material is quickly stained and difficult to clean. Natural fibres are also difficult to sanitise and can retain smell – even if a liner is used. Keep these bins for the office and bedroom or for paper towel disposal in the kitchen.
